DEEJAY | CURATOR | MUSIC ARCHIVIST

Few embody the drive to take African music global like DJ and curator Juan G.
With a sharp focus on emerging African genres, Juan has been instrumental in bringing Afrobeats, Afro house, and Amapiano to the U.S., while captivating audiences across Africa and Asia.
A key figure in the Bay Area’s Afrobeats scene, he co-founded Afrobeats Oakland, created the West Coast's biggest monthly African dance party, AFRO RAVE, and co-directs the annual Afrobeats at the Lake festival. As Director of Lifestyle Marketing for the African Diaspora at EMPIRE, he shapes marketing strategies for African content and artists, bridging the gap between EMPIRE’s African and U.S. teams.

Previously, as the Head of African Content and Programming at Pandora, Juan played a pivotal role in bringing the African music industry to one of the biggest U.S. streaming platforms. His deep knowledge of African pop and urban music helped build Pandora's African offerings and create its first original content focused on African music, solidifying his position as a key player in the global African music movement.
In addition to his work in West Africa, Juan has focused closely on emerging South African genres like Amapiano, Afro House, Gqom and 3-Step. His flagship event, AFRO RAVE, is quickly becoming the go-to destination on the West Coast for these sounds, and in 2025, he plans to expand the brand to new markets.
